Christmas Activities

This week in T3. We are working on Christmas Activities, as it is getting really close to Christmas. Miss Power had created a google website, she posted some videos of how to make christmas cards. Also, she put some facts about the meaning of Christmas, christmas treats and crafts that you can give to a family member or even a friend.  Do you enjoy Christmas? What is your thing, you want for Christmas this Year? 

Miss Power has also shared us a slide for our Christmas Activities too. And what is really great about that... she has put a christmas wish list for us. We have to come up of some Ideas on what we want for Christmas. 

High School Transitioning

High School Transitioning

On Wednesday some of the Year 8's and me, got to go to Grey High School, to have a visit and a look around before going to high school in 2019. We met up with Miss Moynahen.. and she discussed some of the stuff we were about to do when we were their for the transitioning. I think, it was interesting because you actually got to have a look around and see what it was like when you go to High School, in 2019. I'm a little nervous to go to Grey High, but I think I will be alright. 👍👌😊

Country Study

Country Study

This week in T3, we are starting to do Country Study. Miss Power & Miss Hines have assigned us country's to study on. Mine was Chile, although I actually wanted to study on Spain. Because Spain has been a country I have wanted to study on for ages. The good thing about studying on Spain is that, you get to learn their languages and it is very easy to learn. I'am finding this easy to do because this gives me a really good chance in life to know a lot about countries. Have you ever done country study before? If so, what country would you like to do? I have created a slide presentation on my Country Study, on Chile. 

Athletics Day

Yesterday afternoon we went to Anzac Park to do Athletics. It started at 2:00 in the afternoon and we had to get into the age group, we were in. I was in the 13 year old girls, group. Then we had to wait a little bit for the other kids to come, because we had the whole school coming down. By the time all the kids arrived it was my time to shine... I said to myself, ''I'm going to give it all my best. It was time to go to our first activity. First activity was shot-put. I did alright, although I need a bit more practise. Our second was 60 metre sprints? Sadly, I came last.... but that's not all. Then our second one was fun games and we had to get into groups, of 2 and we had the 2 legged race. It was fun, but I nearly fell over because I had my buddy Rikki. And I have to say it was pretty funny. Then we did discus... and I have to say I got it right. Then...... 100 metre sprints. I say to myself... I'm not going to get 1st. Or I'm just going to come last. I got into my lane, and Mr B had the starter gun. BANG! I went as fast as I could ever be. When we got to the end... I came 3rd in the 100 metre race. 

I think I did really well in all the activities. 😀 

My Tapa Design

This week for Ca lender Art, we are still doing our Tapa Design. There are some people that have not finished there Tapa Art. I have finished drawing my Tapa Design. Here is a picture of Tapa Design.

I could of tried a little harder with it. But it is my first time doing Tapa Design. And I think it looks amazing. What do you think? 

PrEP

This week for PrEP in our class, we are starting to make our  PrEP products. My group's name is the Jars & Crafts. We are making a game called Mancala. We are also planning to make Jars, pencil holders aswel. I'm looking forward to the mini market held in the hall, (if it rains) but if it doesn't rain then it's highly likely that the mini market will be outside, like it was last year. There's a few things we are not allowed to make that is.... slime, food, stress balls and squishes. We have to create something that the kids will actually buy, and maybe interested in. 

It's going to be so much fun! 

Tapa Design

This week for Art, we are focusing on ''Tapa'' If your wondering what ''Tapa'' means it's bark cloth, or Tapa is not a woven material, but made from bark that has been softened through a process of soaking and beating. The inner bark is taken from several types of trees and shrubs, often ''Mulberry and fig, or light brown, red and black. Here are some picture of ''Tapa'' 

Were going to make our own Tapa too. 

In class, Miss Power gave us some sheets of different Tapa designs we could do. I chose the easy one. I think I need to practise a little more. But I think I've done well. 

Recycling Essential- Caitlyn

This week in T3 we have been working on Recycling Essential. I have created a doc on explaining some of the reasons why we should NOT use plastic bags for shopping. Here is a reason why we should never use plastic bags. I think using plastic bags is only going to effect the sea life at sea. Because people throw the rubbish into the sea, and some people don't realise what it's doing to the sea life. Maybe, oneday there might not be any fish or other sea life in the sea anymore. And that might mean that people won't be able to go fishing to catch some fish. Do you want beautiful New Zealand to be clean green, with no rubbish around New Zealand?

Tye Dying- Arts Soiree

Tie Dying

This week I have been busy, doing my Tie Dying. I have chosen colours for my Tie Dye T-shirt... those colours are... dark purple, light blue, light green. Here is a picture of my Tie Dye T-shirt. 

This was my first time doing a Tie Dye T-shirt. It was pretty fun, because you got to choose the colors. I found it pretty easy to do, I reckon next time I think I should do it colourful. I think it would look AMAZING! Also, I have been doing a slide presentation about Tie Dying. I don't think it relates to school work...but it has something to do with Tye Dying. I hope you like it!

This week in class for maths we are working on using short division. If you don't know what short division means....I have created a slide presentation to demonstrate what ''Short Division'' means. Argument Writing- Do you think Recycling is essential?

This week we are focusing on Argument Writing. For our argument writing, we are focusing on ''Is Recycling Essential? We had to research on Recycling, I searched up some facts about Recycling and came up with....

1. Half a million trees have to be cut down just to produce the Sunday newspapers each week.

Do you think Recycling is Essential? I totally agree, because it would be great if people ended up using paper bags, even. That would be a lot better, because then it wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.

Arahura Marae

On Tuesday, my class and Te Hiringa went to the Arahura Marae. I enjoyed going to the Marae because I have never been there before and it was a awesome experience. My class and Te Hiringa did our Mihis to introduce ourselves in front of the people that own the Marae.  We had delicious food, e.g savouries and cake. Also, the people there were very kind and spoke with kindness. It was such an honor to have a visit at the Arahura Marae.

Marae Visit

This week we are focusing on our Mihi. Because we are going to the Arahura Marae on 21st August 2018. There is a lot of fun things to do there, I have not been there. But I believe that it will be really fun. We also have to do our Mihi to introduce ourselves. I'm pretty nervous to do my Mihi in front of people, but I think I'll be fine. Have you ever been to a Marae before? What kind of things have you done there? Did you do your Mihi? 

We will be having some food there such as savouries and cakes, and then a bit later we have some fruits. Yum. Bye for now......

I think they should be in there natural habitat because then they would be a lot safer rather than getting hurt every now and then. They lose their dignity, and they are getting hurt.

This week for Maths, we are focusing on find how many combinations there are. Miss Power gave us a question to answer. We had to find out what the answer was, it was a bit tricky because I was a bit confused at the start but I think I will get it right next time if we work on it again. 

Topic

This week for Topic we are focusing on PrEP, PrEP is not too far away, and I'm creating some ideas on a slide presentation for what people might want to make. I'm thinking about going to other classes to help them out. Such as the little kids classes, like Rata or Pohutukawa maybe. Here is my Ideas

I would love to make slime, but we are not allowed to make it because it cost a bit to buy the ingredients.  

PrEP

PrEP 

In a few months time the whole school will be doing PrEP. PrEP is a creative way of learning making new things. Also, participating and contributing with other people. We all have alot of choices what to do. I'm thinking of having my group, and maybe cooking something. People will either get into groups or be part of something such as Warehouse, Police, or something else. Kids in different classes will get into groups and decide what they will be making. Once they have done that they decide who is who. There is CEO which is the main boss of the group. Worker is where you help with what your making and other stuff. I would be happy being the CEO because then you would be able to be the main boss of the group, but if you want to be the CEO then you have to do the PrEP Profile Criteria. 

Digital Technology's Python Syntax Trinket

This week at Technology, at Grey High School We have been learning to use Trinket online, it's to do with coding and stuff. I found this tricky to do because it was hard at first. I recommend you typing up Trinket. It is fun but then again it's hard. Next time maybe I could try a little harder in Trinket, that way I will know how to make trinket coding.

This week we are focusing on Self Respect. As a class we have made a video about Self Respect. Eg: looking after your things and being proud of who you are. We have been talking about Self Respect at Whanau Time, and what it means and what it looks like showing respect.

This week we have been looking at Argument Writing. We had to create a document on our computers, we had to brainstorm... Why we should have a cellphone?? For an example: To be able to message your friends,family, parents. Also, we have been doing words for showing cause and effect. I did find this easy to do because everyone sort of knows why we all need a cellphone, but everyone has there own opinion weather or not we should have them. For example: If you did have a cell phone then you can be able to access apps and messages, also you can be able to message your parents or your friends or your family or someone if you need help of some sort.

We are doing Speeches in class in a few weeks, time

In a few weeks time, my class and I will be doing our speeches. I have an idea in my head about what I'd like to present. There was so many ideas to choose from. Also, it would be my last speech for the year, until I get to high school. 9 or 10 weeks time we will be presenting our speeches. I feel a bit nervous, because you will speaking in front of the whole entire class. What is even better is that I don't have to do it in front of the school.... 😱 That would be terrible. But at least it's in class, rather than having to do it in front of the whole entire school.

If you guys are doing a speech, and if you don't know what to do it on. Than think of something you like, or a sport that you do, or even a holiday that you have been to.

This week I have been working on fraction of an amount. This week I have been with the Newtons, aka my maths group. And we have been discussing what it means. Miss Delaway gave us a worksheet to fill out. 

Literacy

For Literacy I have been working on my free- writing. We had to write a story about something, we had the choice to write about something scary or just something you might like to write. 

I chose to write about two evil girls, and that they live at a school. Which means the school would be haunted full of scary stuff. I didn't think it was scary, but it was worth of try writing about it. 

Art

This week for Art, I have been working on Pablo Picasso, I've been drawing a picture of his drawings. I found it really tricky to do, because at first I thought....oh know. I hope it's not too hard for me to do. But Miss Power, shared with us a doc that had some of his pictures that we could of drawn, and I chose the easiest one. This week my class and I have been working on Jornal Contract, our reading groups are called Bookworms, The Hobbits, Smarties, Thing ones. We are starting a Journal Contract, what Miss Power has done is she has created docs. And putting questions into them for us to answer, we have to read the Journal first. This week for Topic I have been learning about Germination. Since, we're focusing on plants I thought about creating a doc about Germination and what it is. And stuff. 

What does Germinate mean?

This week for Topic I have been learning about Hydroponics, Vegetables. I have been searching up what hydroponics mean. Example: you grow strawberries but you don't add the soil into it.
I found this a bit weird to do, because I thought to myself how is that possible to not add soil to a plant? So that's why I searched up what does Hydroponics mean? If you don't know what it means then here is what it means. 
It's the process of growing plants in sand, gravel, or liquid, with added nutrients but without soil.

If you have a garden near you, or have a garden in your backyard try doing hydroponics and see the difference to it.
It might make a change.

This week for Maths, I have been learning to solve algebraic equations. 

The process of finding out the variable value that makes the equation true is called 'solving' the equation. An equation is a statement that two quantities are equivalent. For example, this linear equation:  x+1=4 means that when we add 1 to the unknown value, 'x', the answer is equal to 4. I found it tricky to do, but it should get easier as I practise. Shantytown Reflection

This week my class and I went to Shantytown, for a class trip. I went in the school van, with some other girls. It was so much fun, looking at all the old shops and the heritage. We did lots of activities, My favourite part would be going to China Town and looking at all the food produce. It was really interesting knowing that in the olden days it was alot different compared to now, in 2018. I have never been to shantytown before, and as soon as I got to shantytown, I thought it was really cool and fun. The lady's there were really nice, and it was good having them to teach us some knowledge about the olden days way back then. 

Maths, Reflection Friday 1st June 2018

This week for Maths I have been working on circumference of a circle. During Maths class, Miss Power writes us some problems to solve. If you don't know what Circumference of a circle is, then here is a little example.

There are two names that are called Diameter and Radius. Diameter means a straight line passing from side to side, through the center of a body, or a figure, especially a circle or a sphere. A radius is pretty much the same as a diameter but a little different. Here is a picture of circumference of a circle.

Also, a Pi= 3.14 so that's three point fourteen. 

I found this a bit tricky to do, but I think I can do a bit more on it to know more about it.

Novel Study 

This week for Novel Study, I have finished my book so I'm starting on a new one. It is called the Cay, by Theodore Taylor. This book is about a boy called Phillip Enright, and he got lost on a island alongside with another man called Timothy. They struggled heaps with food, water, stuff to sleep with and keeping warm. There was a war going on around the dutch area's with the Nazi's trying to take over the dutch area's. The place is called curacao, If you don't know where curacao is here is a map.

Also there is a picture of curacao. It is a beautiful picture of it.

I'm enjoying this book because it's sad at first but as you read through it, It's more happier. I recommend you to read this book because It's adventure book, and it almost feels like your on adventure too.

Cybersmart is a common thing that happens in New Zealand. It means that people are not keeping safe, and posting personal stuff on Social Media. And there is another one too, getting bullied online by others. It's good to trust people, and know that they won't tell anyone. 

Facts about keeping safe online.

Never ever talk to anyone you don't know.

Don't post your personal information on Social Media. 

Say no to people that ask you for lollies or something.

My Goals 2018

This week I have been writing down My Goals on a google document. I had to do Maths, Literacy, and then write all of it down in one sentence. 

Maths

Learn how to do 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication, and to also try a little harder in Maths.

Literacy

Learn to put commas in the right place.

Key Competencies 

I need to be able to know how to learn 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication, also by trying a little harder in Maths. In literacy I need to know how to put commas and punctuation in the right area of sentences. All I need to do is try a little harder in things.
